Ernst Woller (born March 2, 1954 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and current President of the Vienna State Parliament. After ten years as a district councilor in Vienna's 3rd district , Woller moved into the Vienna municipal council and state parliament for the first time in 1988 , until he became a member of the federal council in 1991 . Woller has been a member of the Vienna Parliament again since 1993 and has been the first president of the state parliament since 2018 .

education and profession

Between 1960 and 1964 Ernst Woller attended the primary school in Kleistgasse and then the federal high school in Kundmanngasse , both in the 3rd district of Vienna, Landstrasse . Woller passed his Matura in 1972 and studied computer engineering at the Technical University of Vienna , which he graduated in 1979. In addition, Woller studied political science and education at the University of Vienna from 1979 to 1983 , but dropped out at the dissertation stage.

Woller was an employee of the Dr. Karl Renner Institute from 1979 to 1993 , and from 1993 to 2018 the regional office manager of the regional office in Vienna. During the same period he was employed by Wiener Städtische Versicherungs AG.

politics

Woller worked with the Socialist Youth (SJ) Landstrasse between 1967 and 1983. From 1975 to 1982 Woller was deputy chairman of the association and state chairman of the SJ. Since 1978 he has been chairman of Section 1/2/4 in the Landstrasse district and was district councilor from 1978 to 1988. After Woller had been a member of the Vienna state parliament and local council from 1988 to 1991, he was a member of the Federal Council between 1991 and 1993. He then returned to the Vienna State Parliament and City Council, to which he has been a member since 1993. Woller has also been Deputy District Party Chairman of the SPÖ Landstrasse since 1991.

On May 25, 2018, Ernst Woller was elected as the successor to Harry Kopietz as First President of the Vienna State Parliament. He is also the chairman of the Standing Committee of the State and City of Vienna.

Ernst Woller is married and has three sons and two daughters.
