Veronika Matiasek

Veronika Matiasek (born February 14, 1958 in Vienna ) is an Austrian politician ( FPÖ ) and a member of the Vienna State Parliament and City Council . She has been the second President of the State Parliament since 2015 .

School and professional career

Veronika Matiasek attended the elementary school of the Barmherzigen Schwestern in Währing between 1964 and 1968 and then until 1976 the national high school for girls in Hernals . After graduating from high school with Matura , Matiasek studied economics at the University of Vienna , but did not graduate. She also had various positions in the private sector. After dropping out of her studies in 1981, she worked for the Egmont Ehapa Verlag in Vienna until 1986 .

Political career

Veronika Matiasek was district councilor in Hernals between 1987 and 1991 and deputy district mayor in this district between December 1991 and November 2005. After losing the deputy district head position after the 2005 elections, Matiasek moved into the Vienna state parliament and local council on November 18, 2005. She is a member of the committees for integration, women's issues, consumer protection and personnel, and the environment.

Within the party, Matiasek exercised the function of FPÖ district party leader in Hernals from 1997, she has been a member of the FPÖ federal party leadership since 2000, was a member of the FPÖ state party executive between 2002 and 2004 and has been the deputy of the regional party chairman of the FPÖ Vienna since 2002. Since 2005 she has been chairwoman of the Initiative for Freedom Women in Vienna. In addition, she was a board member of the Ring Freedom Youth Austria .

After the resignations of Heinz-Christian Strache (until then regional party chairman of the FPÖ Vienna) and Johann Gudenus (until then managing chairman of the FPÖ Vienna) in the course of the Ibiza affair in May 2019, she took over the management of the FPÖ Vienna on an interim basis. Dominik Nepp was nominated as Strache's successor as regional party leader of the Vienna FPÖ .

From 2010 to 2015 Veronika Matiasek was a non-executive councilor of the provincial government and city senate Häupl V in Vienna. In January 2020 she was succeeded by Ulrike Nittmann as FPÖ district party leader in Vienna- Hernals , and Matiasek was appointed honorary chairwoman of the district group.

Private

Veronika Matiasek is single and has a son.
