Reinhold Suttner

Reinhold Suttner (born October 31, 1927 in Vienna ; died October 21, 2018 in Vienna) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Suttner was the executive city ​​councilor in Vienna, president of the Vienna state parliament and chairman of the federal council.

Suttner attended the elementary school in Liesing, which was incorporated in 1938, from 1933 to 1937 and then the secondary school in Liesing until 1941. In 1941 he switched to the commercial school, which he attended until 1944. Suttner was drafted into the Wehrmacht in 1944, and in 1945 he returned from military service.

After his return from the Second World War, Suttner entered the service of the City of Vienna in 1946, and in 1948 he moved to the Lower Austria Chamber of Labor, for which he worked until 1951. Suttner then worked for the Vienna Chamber of Labor from 1951 to 1962, and from 1981 to 1987 he was Secretary General of the Association of Cities .

After the war, Suttner co-founded the Socialist Youth in Liesing. In 1954/1955 he held the function of the managing council of Perchtoldsdorf , which had been detached from Vienna , but then moved back to Liesing. From 1962 to 1968 he was district chairman of Liesing (his predecessor was Johann Radfux , his successor was Hans Lackner ) and from 1964 to 1968 district councilor and chairman of the socialist district chairman of Vienna.

On March 29, 1968, Suttner was elected to the Viennese city and state government, where he took over the office of the official city council for housing, settlement and allotment gardening (later housing) in the Marek I government . Suttner was subsequently a member of the state governments Marek II , Slavik and Gratz I and left the government on November 23, 1973.

In addition to his function as a city councilor, Suttner was a member of the state parliament and local council from April 27, 1969, and was elected president of the state parliament on October 8, 1978. On February 13, 1979, Suttner finally resigned from the state parliament and local council. 1973 to 1978 Suttner was also club chairman of the socialist municipal council and parliamentary group.

Its economic function as Chairman of the related company involved him in the mid-1970s in the Bauring scandal .

Suttner was a member of the Federal Council from February 14, 1979 to December 8, 1987, and chaired the Federal Council from July 1 to December 31, 1986.

Within the party, Suttner was executive district party chairman from 1957 to 1975 and district party chairman of the SPÖ Vienna-Liesing from 1975 to 1987. He was also a member of the party executive committee of the SPÖ Vienna and from 1974 to 1987 a member of the federal party executive committee of the SPÖ. From 1964 to 1970 Suttner was also regional chairman of the Wiener Naturfreunde and from 1982 to 1987 delegate to the permanent conference of municipalities and regions at the Council of Europe.
