Gerhard Frasz

Gerhard Frasz (born October 31, 1938 in Wiener Neustadt ; † September 15, 2004 in Steinbrunn ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and state official. From 1985 to 1987 he was a member of the Federal Council and from 1987 to 1995 a member of the Burgenland Landtag .

Life

Frasz was born as the son of the unskilled laborer August Frasz, where he grew up in Steinabrunn, a native of Burgenland Korat. He attended elementary school in Steinbrunn between 1944 and 1949 and then switched to the Federal Realgymnasium and Federal High School Mattersburg , where he graduated from high school in 1957. He then did military service in the Austrian Armed Forces from 1957 to 1958 and joined the national service in 1958. From 1958 to 1995 he was a civil servant at the Burgenland Provincial Government and between 1962 and 1975 he was secretary of the Provincial Councilors Heinrich Knotzer , Fred Sinowatz and Gerald Mader . He was then secretary to Governor Theodor Kery from 1975 to 1985 and club secretary of the socialist parliamentary group in the Burgenland Parliament between 1977 and 1985. He then was state party secretary of the SPÖ Burgenland from 1985 to 1987 and was released from duty between 1985 and 1992. Frasz was appointed senior councilor in 1982 .

Frasz became involved in the political arena from 1958 as a member of the Socialist Youth, where he served as regional chairman from 1963 to 1971. He was also a member of the Association Board of Socialist Youth Austria from 1962 to 1970. In 1972 he took up his first political mandate as a local councilor in Steinbrunn, and on October 1, 1985 he became a member of the Federal Council. After Frasz had chaired the Federal Council between January 1, 1987 and June 30, 1987, he resigned from the Federal Council on October 29, 1987 and became a member of the state parliament and club chairman of the SPÖ Burgenland on October 30, 1987. Frasz held his position as club chairman until December 31, 1989 and was elected second president of the state parliament on January 24, 1991. Frasz was sentenced to a fine in 1993 in the "Sinowatz follow-up trial" for false testimony and resigned on March 17, 1993 as the 2nd President of the State Parliament. On May 31, 1995, he resigned from the state parliament after giving up his mandate. Frasz continued to work as a councilor until 1997, and from 1996 he was also chairman of the pensioners' association in Burgenland.
