Kurt Korbatits

Kurt Korbatits (born September 2, 1937 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and state official. From 1982 to 1996 he was a member of the Burgenland Landtag .

education and profession

Korbatits was born as the son of Johann and Theresia Korbatits, whereby his father died in the Second World War. He attended elementary school and the Bundesrealgymnasium in Eisenstadt and completed his schooling in 1957 with the Matura. In 1961 he did his military service in the Austrian Armed Forces and in 1962 he joined the Burgenland provincial government as a civil servant, where he worked in the senior administrative service. Korbatits was appointed to the government council.

politics

Korbatits took part in the rebuilding of the city and district organization of the Austrian Youth Movement (ÖJB) and took over the role of ÖJB district chairman between 1963 and 1967 and the role of ÖJB regional chairman from 1965 to 1967. As a result, Korbatits was active as a councilor in Eisenstadt between 1965 and 1977 and took over the office of mayor between November 14, 1977 and January 17, 1990. He also represented the ÖVP between October 29, 1982 and June 27, 1996, the ÖVP in the Burgenland state parliament. Within the party, Korbatits was also active as ÖVP city party chairman from 1972 to 1990 and took over the office of managing ÖVP district party chairman in Eisenstadt between 1994 and 1995. He was also involved in the Austrian Workers' Union (ÖAAB), where he was ÖAAB chairman of Eisenstadt from 1969 to 1989 and ÖAAB district chairman of Eisenstadt from 1988 to 1996.

Korbatits has been chairman of the Burgenland Seniors' Association since 2001 .

Other functions

Korbatits was a frequent national swimming champion and between 1955 and 1965 was the president of the Burgenland Swimming Association. In addition, from 1972 he was regional chairman of the Austrian Gymnastics and Sports Union Burgenland.

He was a board member of the Burgenland Garbage Association, 1st chairman of the Eisenstadt-Eisbachtal sewage association, vice-president of the Austrian Association of Towns and founder and chairman of the International Haydn Festival in Eisenstadt. In addition, he held the office of deputy chairman of the Burgenland Cultural Centers Association, from 1990 to 1995 he was chairman of the ÖVP-FCG state service group and deputy chairman of the ÖGB regional service section.
