Rudolf Sigmund

Rudolf Sigmund (born August 25, 1903 in Vienna ; † October 9, 1976 ibid) was an Austrian politician of the SPÖ , member of the Viennese state parliament and member of the municipal council , district chairman and city councilor.

Life

Sigmund was born the son of a railroad worker and learned a trade in the mechanic trade. He joined the union and the Social Democratic Party as a youth and became secretary of the metalworkers' union in 1926 and in 1928 editor of the "Metal and Miners Newspaper". In 1926 he also attended the workers' college . After the Austrian Civil War in 1934, Sigmund was dismissed for political reasons and started his own business in the transport sector. While the Social Democratic Party was banned, he kept in contact with resistance activists and supported them financially and with transport services.

After the end of World War II, Sigmund was established in May 1945. District Director deputy in Währing appointed and worked between July 1945 and April 1946 as District Director . He had already been elected to the Vienna State Parliament and City Council in 1945 and on February 14, 1946, he was sworn in as the official city councilor for nutritional matters. On June 3, 1948, Sigmund resigned from this office and was sworn in on October 31, 1952 as the city councilor responsible for personnel matters, administrative and operational reform. Sigmund held his office until the end of the government period in December 1954 and was subsequently elected third President of the State Parliament. On July 17, 1959, he moved again to the state government and was city councilor for general administrative matters. Sigmund remained in this role until March 29, 1968. In 1969 he also resigned from the state parliament and local council, to which he had belonged continuously since 1945. He was also the district chairman of the SPÖ-Währing between 1946 and 1968.

After his death, Sigmund was buried on October 18, 1976 in the Hernals cemetery .
