Wolfgang Petrik (born October 5, 1948 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian politician ( ÖVP ).

life and career

Wolfgang Petrik was born on October 5, 1948 as the son of the general practitioner Franz Petrik and his wife Helene in Vienna. Here he also attended school and, after passing his school- leaving examination in 1967, acquired the teaching qualification for elementary schools in 1970 . Subsequently, he worked as an elementary school teacher in Gablitz and Lanzendorf and closed in parallel in 1974 the study of pedagogy and psychology at the University of Vienna awarded the degree of Dr. phil. from. He then worked briefly from 1975 to 1976 at a grammar school in Mödling before he turned completely to local politics. He then became a full-time employee of the General Secretariat of the Austrian People's Party and was politically active as a young teacher representative as well as in the context of the Austrian Workers' Union.

On May 21, 1979, after his party colleague Rudolf Zörner left , he made it to the Vienna City Council and Landtag , to which he then belonged from the 12th to the 14th electoral term . On November 14, 1986 he became Vice President of the City School Council for Vienna and held this office until April 27, 1990. On August 1, 1989, he was awarded the Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the State of Vienna , and on October 24, 1989, this award was presented. In a vote against the Mariahilfer district chairman Kurt Pint , Petrik prevailed in October 1989 in the election as regional party leader of the Vienna ÖVP. On April 27, 1990, he served as a city councilor, but was not assigned any area of ​​responsibility. On November 25, 1990, he had to relinquish this office to his designated successor, Heinrich Wille , who was definitely elected in the following January .

Thereupon Petrik acted again from November 26, 1990 as a member of the Vienna State Parliament and as Vienna City Council and at the same time acted as the Third State Parliament President. On December 9, 1991, he resigned his mandate and resigned from the Vienna municipal council and state parliament as a member and third state parliament president. In addition, he was from October 21, 1990 to January 19, 1991, as the successor of Erhard Busek , briefly regional party leader of the Vienna ÖVP. Petrik, who was in his early 40s at the time, withdrew from politics, primarily because of sexist remarks and the harsh treatment of his employees.

Petrik's political priorities were education, town planning and housing. In this area he continued to work after the end of his political career and worked for a housing association.

A relationship to Eva Petrik , with whom he was involved in the Vienna municipal council and state parliament, and her descendants, who were also politically active, is not known.

Today (as of May 2018) Petrik lives in the 19th district of Döbling in Vienna .
