Erwin Hirnschall (born July 22, 1930 in Allentsteig , Lower Austria ; † August 26, 2011 in Vienna ) was an Austrian politician .

Life

Erwin Hirnschall grew up in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria and graduated from the Zwettl high school in 1948 . He came to the Austrian capital to study law at the University of Vienna at the end of the 1940s; In 1955 he received his doctorate .

In the same year, Hirnschall was one of the founding members of both the Freedom Party of Austria (FPÖ) and the Ring of Freedom Students (RFS).

His political career began in 1959 when he was elected as a district councilor in the district council of the Vienna district of Liesing . Five years later, in 1964, he moved to the Vienna State Parliament and City Council as an FP deputy , of which he was a member for 32 years until 1996. He was last elected third president of the state parliament in 1991.

Within his party, from 1983 to 1991, Hirnschall held the office of regional party chairman of the Vienna Freedom Party; In 1997 he was appointed honorary chairman of the FPÖ Vienna.

Within the FPÖ, brain noise was assigned to the liberal wing; according to his own statement, he tried “to keep the right edge clean”. In 2007, Hirnschall distanced himself from Heinz-Christian Strache by stating in an interview: "[...] he lacks - in contrast to Haider - intellectual depth".

Erwin Hirnschall was buried at the Mauer cemetery in Vienna.
