Otto Schweda

Otto Schweda (born January 16, 1919 in Vienna ; † July 7, 2011 there ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ). Schweda was the Executive City Councilor in Vienna, Second President of the Vienna State Parliament and a member of the Federal Council .

Life

Schweda, born in Vienna in 1919, attended elementary school from 1925 to 1929 and then secondary school until 1933. He then moved to a commercial academy , where he graduated in 1937. Schweda entered the service of the City of Vienna in 1945 and was assigned to the Association of Cities in 1950. Between 1952 and 1958 Schweda worked as an editor for the "Österreichische Gemeinde-Zeitung" and from 1959 was secretary of the Austrian Association of Cities. In 1962 Schweda rose to the position of General Secretary of the Association of Cities, a position he held until 1981.

Schweda was a member of the Federal Council between December 11, 1964 and December 14, 1970. On December 18, 1970, he moved to the Vienna State Parliament and City Council for Julius Fischer and was also the City Councilor for Finance from December 21, 1970 to November 23, 1973. Schweda was elected second president of the state parliament on November 23, 1973 and switched to the office of third president of the state parliament on October 8, 1978. Schweda resigned from his position as President of the State Parliament on May 27, 1983 and left on April 24, 1983. During his active political career, Schweda had also been a member of the district committee of the SPÖ Meidling.

Schweda was buried in an honorary grave at Vienna's south-west cemetery (group 64, row 18, number 13).
