Harald Sonderegger (born February 19, 1964 in Bludenz ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). Sonderegger has been President of the Vorarlberg State Parliament since October 15, 2014 . Before that, he was a member of the Vorarlberg regional government as regional councilor .

education and profession

Harald Sonderegger attended the federal high school in Bludenz , where he also graduated . He then completed the high school graduation course at the commercial academy in Feldkirch . He then completed a year as an exchange student in the USA before starting to study law at the universities of Innsbruck and Vienna after completing his military service . During this time he became a member of the K.Ö.HV Leopoldina Innsbruck (1985) and the K.Ö.St.V. Aargau (1987), both in the Austrian Cartel Association (ÖCV) . Finally, he completed his studies with a master's degree in law and in 1993 became an administrative lawyer with the Bregenz district administration .

Political career

In 1995 he was elected mayor of his home town of Schlins , which he subsequently remained full-time until he joined the state government. From 2000 to 2011 he was also chairman of the regional planning association Walgau / Feldkirch district and vice-president of the Vorarlberg municipal association. In 2011 he became president of the Vorarlberg community association. In the state parliament session on May 8, 2013, Harald Sonderegger was elected to the state council by the Vorarlberg state parliament , where he took over this office as the successor to Andrea Kaufmann , who left the government to become mayor of Dornbirn. Harald Sonderegger then took over the departments of culture, science and student funding, advanced training, archives and libraries, music schools, structural engineering, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering as well as cable cars and elevator technology in the Wallner I state government .

With the formation of the new black-green coalition after the state elections in 2014 , Sonderegger left the government and was elected president of the 30th Vorarlberg state parliament on October 15, 2014 at the constituent meeting of the 30th state parliament . As such, Harald Sonderegger was elected Vice-President of the Chamber of Regions in the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe on November 6, 2018 . After the state elections in 2019 , he was re-elected President of the Vorarlberg state parliament.

Private life

Harald Sonderegger is married, has two sons and a daughter and lives in Schlins .
