Pius Moosbrugger

Pius Moosbrugger (born October 25, 1897 in Nüziders , † April 3, 1978 in Rankweil ) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and ÖBB employee. From 1954 to 1964 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and its second vice-president.

education and profession

Moosbrugger completed five years of elementary school in Nüziders and then three years of community school in Bludenz . He then moved to the commercial advanced training school in Dornbirn for three years and then completed an apprenticeship as a machine fitter at the Rüsch works in Dornbirn between 1911 and 1914. After his apprenticeship, he worked for Zeppelin Motorenbau in Friedrichshafen from 1914 until the spring of 1915 . From 1915 he finally served in the First World War as a pilot in the Air Force, where he received numerous war awards.

After his military service, Moosbrugger was again employed as a turbine fitter at the Rüsch works in Dornbirn between 1919 and 1925, after which he joined the Federal Railways. From 1929 he was a locomotive driver, in 1962 he retired as an ÖBB employee.

politics

Moosbrugger joined the Social Democratic Workers' Party in 1919 and was one of the founders of the Nüziders local group, of which he was chairman from 1926 to 1934. He represented his party between 1929 and 1934 in the local council of Nüziders, but after the annexation of Austria he turned to the NSDAP , which he joined in 1940. In addition, during this time he was a member and training manager of the National Socialist Aviation Corps (NSFK) and comradeship leader of the NS Warrior League.

After the end of the Second World War , Moosbrugger was again active in the Social Democratic Party, and between 1945 and 1951 he again acted as deputy chairman or chairman of the SPÖ Nüziders. Within the party, he was also active as a member of the district committee of the SPÖ Bludenz, from 1954 a member of the state party leadership of the SPÖ Vorarlberg and a member of the state party executive of the SPÖ Vorarlberg. In Nüziders he represented his party again in the municipal council from 1945 to 1960, where he was a member of the municipal council between 1950 and 1960.

Moosbrugger was also a member of the board of the Vorarlberg municipal association, member of the board of trustees of the state housing fund, member of the board of trustees of the rural settlement fund and co-founder of the Franz-Michael-Felder-Verein.

He represented the SPÖ from October 29, 1954 to October 28, 1964 in the Vorarlberg state parliament and during this time held the office of 2nd vice-president of the state parliament.

Private

Moosbrugger was born as the son of the farmer couple Jakob and Maria Moosbrugger. He married the midwife Johanna Schnetzer on March 8, 1927 and was the father of four daughters and one son, who were born between 1927 and 1947. His wife died in 1992.
