Elmar Steurer

Elmar Steurer (born June 5, 1924 in Bürs ) is a former Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and employee of the Austrian Federal Railways . From 1964 to 1976 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and from 1970 its second vice-president and from 1959 to 1971 mayor of his home town of Bürs.

education and profession

After elementary school, Steurer completed the lower level of a grammar school and subsequently attended a commercial school . Professionally, he was employed as a dispatcher for the Austrian Federal Railways. From at least 1966 to 1968 he was employed at the command station in Bludenz as a federal railway chief inspector (service title for salary group VIIa). In 1977 he was a member of the board of directors and Federal Railway Inspector (salary group VIII) at Feldkirch station , but was relieved of his position as a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament.

politics

On May 3, 1945, Steurer was involved in the "storming of the district leadership" of the National Socialist German Workers' Party (NSDAP) in Bludenz and subsequently joined the SPÖ, where he was a member of the Bürs municipal council between 1955 and 1975. In addition, he held the office of mayor of Bürs between December 15, 1959 and January 21, 1971. He was active within the party as a member of the state party executive committee and the state party leadership of the SPÖ Vorarlberg and was involved in the SPÖ in the Bludenz district as a member of the district party leadership. He was sworn in as a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament on October 29, 1964 and was a member of the state parliament as a representative of the Bludenz state electoral district until he resigned on November 21, 1976 . On June 24, 1970, he was elected 2nd Vice-President of the State Parliament, where he held this position until he left the State Parliament. Steurer was active in various state parliament committees, in particular in the finance committee, economics committee, agricultural committee and as deputy chairman of the energy policy committee.

Steurer was also chairman of the board of directors of the Sonnenkopfseilbahn and from 1952 to 1953 chairman of the ice and stick sports club Bürs.

Private

Steurer was born as the son of ÖBB employee Konrad Steurer and his wife Monika. He married Frieda Stockinger from Klösterle on April 20, 1954, and had two daughters and a son, who were born between 1955 and 1966.
