Gebhard Amann

Gebhard Friedrich Amann (born May 29, 1899 in Hohenems ; † May 31, 1979 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( CS , ÖVP ) and department head of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Agriculture . Amann was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1934 to 1938 and from 1945 to 1964 .

Gebhard Amann was born on May 29, 1899 as the son of Stickers Gebhard Amann (senior) and his wife Elisabeth in Hohenems . In his home town he attended elementary and community school before he started his first job as an embroidery worker. In 1917 the young Gebhard Amann was called up for military service in the 2nd Kaiserschützen Regiment. After returning from the war and being re-employed at the Alois Amann embroidery company, Gebhard Amann became a member of the Christian Embroidery Workers' Union and a member of the Christian Social Party in 1919 . From 1921 onwards, Gebhard Amann took up a new job as a gardener, chauffeur and property manager for Count Waldburg-Zeil in the Hohenems Palace .

After the May Constitution came into force on May 1, 1934 and the associated introduction of the Austro-Fascist corporate state , Gebhard Amann was appointed as a member of the state parliament on November 14, 1934 according to the provisions of the new constitution as a representative of the profession of agriculture and forestry. On April 26, 1937, he married Rosina Rosalia Hämmerle, who was born in Lustenau, in Innsbruck , with whom he subsequently had six children. When Austrian statehood ended with the annexation of Austria to Germany on March 12, 1938, Amann's political mandate in the state parliament also expired. Amann himself was arrested in 1938 as a political opponent of the National Socialists and imprisoned for a short time. On April 4, 1945, he was falsely declared dead by the Feldkirch Regional Court .

After the liberation by the Allies and the restoration of Austrian statehood, Gebhard Amann was elected to the Vorarlberg state parliament in the first free state election on November 25, 1945 as a member of the Feldkirch electoral district . In this he acted in a total of four legislative periods, including from 1949 to 1964 as the first vice- president of the state parliament and from 1958 to 1964 also as the club chairman of the ÖVP state parliament club. After the state election in 1964 , Gebhard Amann left the Vorarlberg state parliament on October 28, 1964. Professionally, Gebhard Amann worked from 1948 to 1965 as head of the section for agricultural and forestry employees in the Chamber of Agriculture for Vorarlberg.
