Political career

In the Vorarlberg state parliament

On October 21, 1993 Fritz Amann was appointed to the Vorarlberg state parliament . He stayed there until October 3, 1994. After a break, Amann was not re-elected to a state parliament mandate until October 1, 1996. From October 5, 1999 to October 4, 2004 he was Vice President of the State Parliament, then he took over the function of club chairman of the Freedom Parliamentary Group. In 2001 he criticized the demolition of dead cattle in the state parliament and made the subject known to the general public for the first time. After the state elections in Vorarlberg in 2009 , in which the liberal state party leader Dieter Egger had made some statements during the election campaign that Amann said he could not support, he left the Vorarlberg state parliament.

In an interview with ORF, Amann commented on Dieter Egger's “Jewish exile teller” at the start of the election campaign with the words “On the one hand, the free-spirited, liberal Vorarlberg FPÖ is thrown into the brown soup, on the other hand, the party could be damaged by its role in the opposition”. His successor as a liberal club chairman was Dieter Egger at the constituent meeting of the 29th Vorarlberg state parliament.

As a Chamber of Commerce official

Fritz Amann was chairman of the Ring of Freedom Economists (RfW) in Vorarlberg from 1994 to 2007 and was federal chairman from March 13, 2004 to March 8, 2014 and thus a member of the extended presidium of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce . In 2010 he succeeded Matthias Krenn (Mayor of Bad Kleinkirchheim) as Vice President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce. He succeeded him in 2014 as federal chairman of the RfW.

In April 2010, after the federal presidential election , in which the liberal candidate Barbara Rosenkranz was clearly inferior to incumbent Heinz Fischer , Fritz Amann criticized the federal party leader of the FPÖ, Heinz-Christian Strache . Amann said in an interview that the lineup of the "right-wing" candidate Barbara Rosenkranz was a mistake. As with his criticism of Egger's statements, Amann demanded a rethinking of the party leadership in the direction of free-liberal values.

As a result, both party leader Strache and various other high-ranking FPÖ functionaries condemned the public expression of the RfW federal chairman. Since the chairmen of the RfW regional associations stood behind Amann, the FPÖ entered the Chamber of Commerce election in Vienna with its own list “FPÖ-Pro Mittelstand”, which clearly failed to make it into the chamber. After the election, Fritz Amann was appointed Vice President of the Austrian Chamber of Commerce as a representative of the Ring of Freedom Economists .

In May 2014, Amann resigned as Vice President of the Chamber of Commerce after the controversial statements that one-person companies (EPU) were “not entrepreneurs”, but “day laborers” and “bogus self-employed”.
