Andreas Berchtold

Andreas Berchtold (born August 3, 1924 in Feldkirch ; † April 17, 2015 ibid.) Was an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and official director of the regional financial directorate. From 1974 to 1989 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and from 1984 its first vice-president.

education and profession

After the elementary school Feldkirch-Altenstadt, Berchtold attended the Bundesgymnasium Feldkirch from 1934 , where he passed the Matura in 1942 . From March 1942, he had to do his military service in World War II and returned from the war in the summer of 1945 after a brief prisoner-of-war period. In the academic year 1945/46 he studied briefly at the Graz University of Technology , but then broke off his studies and joined the Feldkirch financial administration in April 1946. He worked for the Financial Directorate for Vorarlberg in the department for direct taxes and family burden compensation and was retired on August 31, 1984 as an official director .

politics

Berchtold joined the Austrian workers' union in 1955 and was sworn in as a member of the Feldkirch city council in the same year. He represented the ÖVP in the city council between 1960 and 1980 and subsequently held the post of Vice Mayor until 1990. He also acted as mayor of Feldkirch-Altstadt from 1960 to 1980 and left the city council in 1990. As a member of the state parliament, Berchtold was sworn in on November 4, 1974. He belonged to the state parliament for the following three legislative periods and left the state parliament at the end of the 24th legislative period on October 23, 1989. He served as the first vice-president of the state parliament from November 6, 1984 until he left.

Within the party, he was active as district party chairman of the ÖVP Feldkirch from 1983, and between 1974 and 1989 he was a member of the state party leadership of the ÖVP Vorarlberg. He was also a member of the supervisory board of VOGEWOSI from 1970 and chairman of the supervisory board from 1982 to 1991, member of the Feldkirch savings bank council from 1973 to 1994 , founder of the Altenstadt home association in 1993, member or chairman of the Altenstadt parish church council , chairman of the Altenstadt cycling club and member of the public service union .

Private

Berchtold was born as the son of the railway worker Andreas Berchtold and his wife Ann, née Mähr. He married Ida Larcher on May 21, 1951 and had three sons and a daughter, with the children born between 1954 and 1965. His eldest son Wilfried Berchtold was elected mayor of Feldkirch in 1991.
