List of savings banks in Austria

The Sparkasse der Stadt Feldkirch , based in Feldkirch, is one of the oldest financial institutions in Vorarlberg and part of the Sparkassenverband in Austria . It was created in 1842 as a club savings bank. The savings bank is a member of the cooperation and liability association of the Austrian savings banks and the Austrian savings bank association.

Founding history

The guiding principle of the Sparkasse - the promotion of the saving mindset and provision - fell on fertile ground in Vorarlberg: Vorarlberg's first Sparkasse was founded in Bregenz as early as 1822 . Sparkasse Feldkirch has a stake of around 25 percent in this.

On November 1, 1842, after years of efforts, the Sparkasse Feldkirch was opened. In addition to the chairman Carl Ganahl , the Sparkassenverein also included the then Bishop Georg Prünster and all Feldkirch merchants and dignitaries who were also responsible for the creditworthiness of the young company. When it was founded, it was said: "The purpose of the savings bank is to encourage craftsmen, day laborers, servants, factory workers and other people of the poor people class to keep their savings safe and fruitful, and thereby encourage them to work and thrift."

The Sparkasse Feldkirch experienced a considerable annual increase in financial resources, so that after 30 years of development work it was able to grant loans for public construction projects such as the construction of the elementary school. To alleviate the housing shortage, the Sparkasse built the first apartment building in Feldkirch in 1888, the so-called apartment building .

The Sparkasse Feldkirch is still the only association savings bank in Vorarlberg.

Structural development of the headquarters

From its founding in 1842, the Sparkasse headquarters was located on the ground floor of Feldkirch's town hall. For the 125th anniversary of the company's existence, the new building on Sparkassenplatz was moved into in 1967.

Important events

In 1900 the savings bank books were introduced. In 1905 the first annual meeting of the then 40 Sparkasse members took place. In 1906 the Sparkasse Feldkirch was administratively separated from the city administration. In 1907, the "home savings system" started with 25 money boxes. With assets under management of 13.2 million crowns and savings of 12.1 million crowns, the Sparkasse Feldkirch was at the top of the Vorarlberg savings banks in 1913. From 1931 to 1979 the municipality of Feldkirch was responsible for the Sparkasse.

The oldest and largest branch is in Götzis and has been in existence since 1960. Another ten Sparkasse branches (Altenstadt, Frastanz, Gisingen, Klaus, Mäder, Nofels, Rankweil, Sulz-Röthis, Tisis and Tosters) were opened between 1972 and 1980. As the only financial institution in Vorarlberg, the Sparkasse Feldkirch has been an “excellent training company” since 1998 and has trained more than 40 apprentices in recent years. In 2001 the Sparkasse Feldkirch joined the Sparkassen-Haftungsverbund, and in 2003 the Feldkirch branch of Erste Bank was taken over by the Sparkasse.

Sparkasse Feldkirch won the first Sparkasse Award in 2003 and was also very successful at all other awards, most recently in 2008 with a very good fourth place overall among all 54 Austrian savings banks. The s Wohnbank, which is still unique today, was opened in 2003 and the new Sparkasse in Koblach in autumn 2008 . A private banking customer center was set up in 2010 to further expand the service for wealthy customers. As the largest financial institution in the district, the Sparkasse Feldkirch, with its branches and s Wohnbank as well as the two commercial centers in Feldkirch and Götzis, offers “home advantage” for over 41,000 customers.

Non-profit projects / sponsoring

In the course of corporate social responsibility , Sparkasse Feldkirch supports associations, institutions and charitable, social and cultural initiatives on a wide scale.
