The FC Blau-Weiß Feldkirch is an Austrian football club from the second largest Vorarlberg city Feldkirch .

history

The FC Blau-Weiß Feldkirch was founded in 1945 and saw itself as the successor to the three former Feldkirch football clubs SV Feldkirch (1921), ATSV Feldkirch (1923) and the footballers of the TB Feldkirch (1929). Particularly noteworthy here is SV Feldkirch, which had participated in the Vorarlberger Landesliga from 1933 with a short interruption. The first game was played against a French crew selection and ended 7: 1, the club colors come from founding member Franz Skoda, who provided blue shirts and white pants. In its first championship season in 1945/46 , the club was tied for second place behind SC Austria Lustenau in the national league , and in 1948 they became national champions for the first time.

The Vorarlbergers qualified for the first time in 1950 for the second-class Arlberg League, from which they were relegated in 1952. From 1955 to 1960 the club was again represented in the Arlbergliga for five years. The club legend Adi Knoll , who was brought in from the Wiener Sport-Club in 1956 , where the Vorarlberger had blossomed into a regular player in the national team , made a particular impression.

The FC Blau-Weiß Feldkirch managed to return to the second division after just one year in 1961, which was now called Regionalliga West . Nevertheless, the club remained one of the relegation candidates, had to return to the national league in 1964, returned again in 1968 and this time played for promotion to the national league . Third in 1969/70 , second behind SK Bischofshofen in 1970/71 and third again in 1971/72 were the best results. During the league reform in 1974 , however, FC Blau-Weiß Feldkirch missed the qualification for the new 2nd division and now played in the national league. The club was only able to play its way back into the limelight in 1999, when it was promoted to the third-tier Regionalliga West. Three Liechtenstein national players played here with Thomas Beck and Roger Beck as well as Wolfgang Kieber .
