Feldkirch Festival
The Feldkirch Festival was an annual cultural event in the city of Feldkirch in Austria , which usually took place in June from 2001 to 2012.
The festival has been held under a different motto every year since 2001 and includes theater performances, concerts and other cultural events. The festival was the successor to the Schubertiade , which was held here between 1991 and 2000 and has been taking place in Schwarzenberg ever since .
The first artistic director was the conductor Thomas Hengelbrock until 2006 . The musical focus of early music was on historical instruments and contemporary compositions. He was followed from 2007 to 2012 by the director Philippe Arlaud , who focused on the music of the 20th and 21st centuries. He was supported by the former director of the Vorarlberg State Conservatory , Anselm Hartmann , as managing director of the festival .
The festival was quite controversial as it has to be co-financed by subsidies . After the occupancy rate fell to 75%, the city government decided to take a “break and pause for reflection” and not to hold the festival in 2013 and 2014.
