The narrow-leaved marigold ( Tagetes tenuifolia ) is a species of the genus Tagetes within the sunflower family (Asteraceae).

Vegetative characteristics
The narrow-leaved marigold is an annual herbaceous plant that reaches heights of 20 to 70 centimeters. The 5 to 13 centimeters long leaves have 12 to 22 narrowly lanceolate and very sharply sawn sections.
Generative characteristics
The cup-shaped inflorescences are 2.5 to 3 centimeters in diameter and are not filled. The envelope contains about five bracts and is 10 to 20 millimeters long. The five ray-florets are egg-shaped, edged and colored golden yellow with an orange, M-shaped spot. There are 10 to 40 tubular flowers .
The flowering period extends from June to November.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 24.
Occurrence
The narrow-leaved marigold is found on river banks from Mexico to Costa Rica.
use
The narrow-leaved marigold is used as an ornamental plant for summer flower beds. In Asia it is also used as a spice and for perfume. The species has been in culture at least since 1795. There are some varieties with yellow, red or orange rays.
