Heinz Peter Ritter (born January 22, 1952 in Hohenems ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ) and police officer. From 2009 to 2014 he was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament and from 2012 its 1st vice-president.

Professional and political career

Ritter has been employed by the Federal Gendarmerie or today's Federal Police since 1970 and was head of the Bludenz motorway police station until 2012 . He is married and has a son and a daughter.

Politically, Ritter is rooted in Bludenz's city politics. He was there from 1990 to 1995 city representative and then from 1995 to 2009 city council. After the municipal council elections in 2005, he was elected Vice Mayor of the Alpine city. In addition, since October 14, 2009, Ritter was a mandate of the ÖVP Vorarlberg in the Vorarlberg state parliament. During his time as a member of the state parliament, he was traffic spokesman for the ÖVP state parliament club.

After the change of State Parliament President Bernadette Mennel as State Councilor to the State Government and the consequent rise of the previous 1st State Parliament Vice President Gabriele Nussbaumer to State Parliament President, Heinz Peter Ritter was elected as Nussbaumer's successor as the first Vice President of the Vorarlberg State Parliament on November 14, 2012. In the run-up to this change, Ritter had already resigned from his community political functions, in particular the office of Bludenz Vice Mayor.

In the 2014 state elections , Heinz Peter Ritter in the Bludenz constituency was overtaken by the political newcomers Christian Gantner and Monika Vonier by means of preferential votes and was therefore no longer able to obtain a mandate. With the inauguration of the new state parliament on October 15, 2014, he therefore resigned from it.
