Gabriele Nussbaumer (born June 17, 1956 in Bregenz ; born Gabriele Russ ) is an Austrian politician ( ÖVP ). Nussbaumer was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1999 to 2018 . From 2012 to 2014 she was President and from 2004 to 2012 and from 2014 to 2018 Vice-President of the State Parliament.

Professional and political career

Gabriele Nußbaumer was born on June 17, 1956 as the daughter of UN publisher and editor-in-chief Anton Russ and his wife Rosa. After attending elementary school in Bregenz and the private high school Sacré Coeur Riedenburg , she initially trained as an elementary school teacher at the Pedagogical Academy in Feldkirch , before starting to study law at the University of Innsbruck in 1979 . This she graduated in 1984 with the promotion of Doctor of Law from.

She then worked as a journalist. After the state elections in 1999 , Nussbaumer was sworn in for the first time on October 5, 1999 as a member of the Feldkirch electoral district in the Vorarlberg state parliament . In the 27th Vorarlberg state parliament she was subsequently the area spokesperson for social affairs at the ÖVP state parliament club. After the state elections in 2004 , Nussbaumer was elected the first female vice-president of the newly sworn 28th state parliament. Also in the 29th legislative period of the state parliament, Gabriele Nussbaumer was initially elected as the first vice-president of the state parliament and was the European spokesperson for the ÖVP.

After Bernadette Mennel, President of the State Parliament, moved to the state government , Gabriele Nussbaumer was elected President of the Vorarlberg State Parliament on November 14, 2012. Her previous function as first female vice-president was taken over by her party colleague Heinz Peter Ritter . She has been President of Lebenshilfe Vorarlberg since July 2014 and a member of the Supervisory Board of the German Liebenau Foundation since 2015 .

Gabriele Nussbaumer lives in Feldkirch , is married and has a son and a daughter. Her son passed away in 2012.

Her younger brother Eugen Russ (* 1961) is the largest publisher in Vorarlberg with Russmedia .
