Karl Falschlunger

Karl Falschlunger (born February 19, 1930 in Hohenems , Vorarlberg ; † March 20, 2012 ) was an Austrian politician ( KPÖ , SPÖ ). Falschlunger was a member of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1969 to 1995 . In addition, from 1993 to 1995 he was state party chairman of the SPÖ Vorarlberg .

Life

Karl Falschlunger was born on February 19, 1930 as the son of the car mechanic Alois Falschlunger and his wife Ottilia in the Vorarlberg town of Hohenems . After attending primary and secondary school in his hometown, he first completed an apprenticeship as a toolmaker at the Bregenz Michel works, which was interrupted by the company's bankruptcy. Subsequently, Falschlunger became an employee of the Austrian Federal Railways and in December 1945 a cabin boy on a ship of the ÖBB Lake Constance fleet . Around this time, Falschlunger became a communist member of the Communist Party of Austria and the Free Austrian Youth . He was also a member of the Austro-Soviet Society until he left the KPÖ on October 31, 1956 .

Two years after leaving the KPÖ, Falschlunger became a member of the Socialist Party of Austria (SPÖ) in 1958 . First, however, he made a career within the union and was appointed from the chairman of the shop stewards committee of the Bregenz shipping office in 1964 to the country's chairman of the railway workers 'union and in 1967 to the national chairman of the railway workers' union. In the same year he also became a member of the chamber council and board member of the Vorarlberg Chamber of Labor and district chairman of the socialist union Bregenz. From 1981 to 1984 Falschlunger held the office of Vice President of the AK-Vorarlberg. In 1975 he was elected regional chairman of the ÖGB Vorarlberg. He held this position until 1987. Since 1970 Falschlunger has worked professionally as the captain of a Lake Constance ship.

On November 5, 1969, Karl Falschlunger succeeded his party colleague Viktor Schwarzmann , who was elected to the Austrian Federal Council , on his mandate in the Vorarlberg state parliament . He was able to hold this mandate in five re-elections until 1995, before resigning on January 20, 1995. Angelika Fußenegger succeeded him when the mandate became vacant. Falschlunger also took over the role of SPÖ club chairman since November 3, 1993. During his time as a member of the state parliament, Karl Falschlunger was second vice-president of the Vorarlberg state parliament from 1979 to 1993.
