The Feldkirch Regional Court (LG Feldkirch) is the regional court responsible for the Austrian state of Vorarlberg . It is located in the city of Feldkirch in the historic courthouse on the Ill .

Responsibilities

The Feldkirch Regional Court is primarily responsible for those criminal and civil law cases that exceed the competencies of the five district courts in Vorarlberg . In terms of civil law, this generally includes (with exceptions) cases with a value in dispute of more than 15,000 euros. In addition, the LG Feldkirch acts as an appeal body for judgments of the Vorarlberg district courts and as a labor and social court for Vorarlberg. The Feldkirch Regional Court is also responsible for maintaining the commercial register for companies based in Vorarlberg.

The regional jurisdiction of the Feldkirch regional court covers the entire federal state of Vorarlberg, making it the only Austrian federal state in whose regional capital there is no regional court. The superior court is the Innsbruck Higher Regional Court .

Location and building

The court building, which was built in 1903–1905 as the kuk district court by the well-known architect Ernst Dittrich , is located in Feldkirch on Liechtensteiner Strasse (L 191), which in this area is referred to as Schillerstrasse in the local street network . To the northeast of the regional court is the Ill , from which the building is separated by the Graf-Hugo-Wuhrgang .

To the south-east, structurally connected to the historic courthouse, is the Feldkirch prison, the main location of the only prison in the state of Vorarlberg. The premises of the Feldkirch public prosecutor's office were also housed in the building complex of the regional court until its relocation in 2019 .

architecture

The construction of the facade is still entirely in keeping with late historical eclecticism , with renaissance and gothic elements, the decor already formally freer Art Nouveau . On the side wing of the regional court there is a stepped gable on which Josef Huber designed a mosaic that depicts the symbolic figure of Austria and the coats of arms of the Counts of Montfort and that of the Counts of Werdenberg .

In addition, the jury court room, which is located in the southern part of the building and whose main entrance opens onto the inner courtyard of the regional court, is of particular quality. Since the jury court room is two stories high, the Feldkirch state building department built an extension around it on the first floor in 1983 and 1984 so that the entire width of the building can also be used as office space with 15 newly created office rooms on the first floor. The building of the regional court has been barrier-free since the end of September 2016, after extensive renovation work had been carried out in stages since 2007.
