Josef Huber (painter)

Johann Josef Huber , usually called Josef Huber-Feldkirch (born March 16, 1858 in Feldkirch ; † July 26, 1932 at Schloss Neuburg am Inn ), was an Austrian painter who lived and worked in Munich and Düsseldorf .

Life

Huber was a student of the Tyrolean church painter Franz Plattner and later studied at the Munich Art Academy with Nikolaus Gysis , Ludwig von Löfftz and Gabriel von Hackl and in 1887 at the Académie Julian in Paris. He then initially worked in Munich and taught from 1909 to 1923 as a professor for church monumental art at the Düsseldorf Art Academy .

He was a representative of historicism , but also took influences from Symbolism , Art Nouveau and Expressionism .

From 1910 to 1932 Huber was a member of the Düsseldorf artists' association "Malkasten" . From 1926 to 1927 and 1930 he had a studio in Düsseldorf in the Eiskellerberg .
