Labor and Social Court Vienna

The Vienna Labor and Social Court (ASG Wien) is the court of first instance responsible for the Austrian capital Vienna in labor and social law matters .

It is the only court in Austria that has special jurisdiction for labor and social law matters; In the other regional court districts outside Vienna, labor and social justice is administered in the first instance by the respective regional courts . In Vienna, by far the largest workplace in Austria, the ASG Vienna was removed from the jurisdiction of the Regional Court for Civil Law Matters and newly created at the same time as the Austria-wide introduction of the Labor and Social Court Act (ASGG) on January 1, 1987 .

By 2017, the seat of the Labor and Social Court of Vienna was with its currently 41 judges and judges in the Wickenburggasse 8 in the 8th district of Vienna Josefstadt in the same block as the country's Criminal Court of Vienna and directly adjacent to the prison of Vienna Josefstadt . In mid-January 2017, the labor and social court moved to the former university center at Althanstrasse 3 , which had been renovated and adapted for court operations after the Vienna University of Economics and Business moved out. The almost 100 employees of the court are therefore now working at the new location in the 9th district of Alsergrund .

Every year around 16,000 proceedings are carried out at the Vienna Labor and Social Court, which are brought to an (first-instance) conclusion on average within 6 months. The Higher Regional Court of Vienna acts as a higher court and appeal instance .
