The Innsbruck Regional Court (in short: LG Innsbruck ) is one of 20 regional courts in Austria . It is responsible for the state of Tyrol . It is located together with the Innsbruck Higher Regional Court in the buildings Maximilianstrasse 4 and Schmerlingstrasse 1 (old building). The Innsbruck Chief Public Prosecutor's Office  and  Innsbruck Public Prosecutor's Office are also located in the old building  .

Jurisdiction

As a regional court, it is responsible for dealing with appeals against decisions of the district courts in the second instance  . In principle, it is responsible for civil matters in the event of a value in dispute exceeding € 15,000. However, certain cases fall within the jurisdiction of the district courts regardless of the amount in dispute. It is responsible for criminal matters in the first instance if the threat of punishment is more than a year. Certain criminal cases fall under his jurisdiction even if the threat of punishment is lower.

The court of appeal for decisions by the Innsbruck Regional Court is the Innsbruck Higher Regional Court.

The courthouse was built from 1884 to 1887 according to plans by Joseph Winterhalder under the direction of the builder Anton Fritz sen. built and restored after bomb damage from 1945 to 1950 under the direction of Hans Feßler . The three - storey neo - renaissance building encloses an inner courtyard with four wings. The main facade, which takes up the entire length of Schmerlingstrasse, has a central risalit with a hipped roof . Its three central axes are taken up by a monumental porch with fluted columns and a stone balcony above. The base area, which is closed off by a cornice , is made of stone rustica , the rest of the ground floor in plastered rustica . An antique frieze runs above the ground floor . The upper floors are structured with plaster cuboid joints, the windows are profiled and framed. The stairwell protrudes on the courtyard side. The former negotiation room on the second floor has a mirror vault and a layered arrangement of pilasters. The listed building is one of the most important historical monumental buildings in Innsbruck.

From 1969 to 1973, a twelve-storey new building was built according to plans by Charlotte and Karl Pfeiler on the area of ​​the former prison to the south . A large part of the courtrooms is housed in the building, which is accessible from Maximilianstrasse.
