Hans Feßler
Hans Feßler (born February 15, 1896 in Dornbirn , † December 14, 1973 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian architect .
Life
Hans Feßler studied architecture from 1918 to 1922 at the technical universities in Graz , Karlsruhe and Munich . He then worked in Clemens Holzmeister's office in Innsbruck. In 1928 he founded his own office in Innsbruck. In 1942/43 he worked as a teacher at the technical college in Innsbruck , after serving in the war and being a prisoner of war, he resumed work in his office in 1945. In 1970, Federal President Franz Jonas awarded him the title of building officer .
In 1923 he married Hilda Zumtobel. The couple had six children. Two of the sons also became architects. Ingo Feßler worked in his office from 1949 and became his partner in 1963, Ulrich Feßler worked in his father's office from 1957 to 1963. His grandson Arno Feßler has been running the office since 1999.
In addition to numerous residential buildings and churches in Tyrol and Vorarlberg, Hans Feßler designed the plans for the renovation and new construction of twenty-three hotels. Starting from the Heimatstil , he achieved the New Objectivity by the end of the 1920s . His decidedly modern solutions are adapted to the landscape and local building tradition and are partly type-defining. Many of his buildings were placed under monument protection.
