The Bildungshaus St. Arbogast is a Roman Catholic educational institution of the diocese of Feldkirch for Vorarlberg in the market town of Götzis at Montfortstraße 88.

location

St. Arbogast is located on the edge of a nature reserve above the Vorarlberg Rhine Valley , around 1.5 km from the center of Götzis. The main building and the three guest houses enclose the courtyard, reminiscent of a village square, with café tables and a natural shrub garden.

history

St. Arbogast was opened as a youth center on December 8, 1960. In the years before that, thousands of young people from the Vorarlberg Catholic Youth team around youth minister Anton Nenning campaigned for the construction of a youth center in Vorarlberg. One of the activists was August Christa, who ran the house from the beginning until 1989.

According to the plans of the architects Anton Rhomberg and Hans Feßler , in 1959? the farm building and residential house 1 were built and expanded from 1967 to 1969 with the construction of the chapel and houses 2 and 3. In 1970 the new houses were opened and the chapel was consecrated to the Holy Spirit . From 1991 to 1993 the main building was converted according to plans by the architects Hermann Kaufmann and Christian Lenz with the structural engineer Ingo Gehrer.

The water house in the form of a 5 × 5 meter large concrete cube with 820 circular holes stands on a meadow not far from the education house . The visual artist Fridolin Welte won a competition on the subject of water and art in building with his design. The implementation took place in 2003 with Christian Lenz. At the same time the local Kalkofenbach was renatured. The pavilion is used as a meditation room and for experience-oriented educational events on the subject of water, creation spirituality, experiencing nature and environmental awareness for adults, young people and children.
