Walter Zschokke

Walter Zschokke (born January 15, 1948 in Wildegg ; † February 5, 2009 in Vienna , Austria ) was a Swiss architect and architecture critic.

Life

Zschokke studied architecture at the ETH Zurich , was assistant to A. M. Vogt from 1977 to 1985 and received his doctorate in architectural history (work on the design of the Sustenpass road). From 1977 Zschokke worked at the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture at the ETH.

From 1985 he lived in Vienna and worked in the field of architecture as a designer, historian, critic, juror, curator and exhibition organizer. Initially employed in the office of the Hollein student Hermann Czech , from 1989 Zschokke had an independent studio with Walter Hans Michl . He was also an advisory board member for culture and science in Lower Austria and the arts section of the Federal Chancellery . At the Art University Linz he had a teaching position for theory and history of architecture . Zschokke was known as a connoisseur of Austrian architectural practice, and wrote for the spectrum of the press , in specialist journals and published several books for over 20 years .

On February 5, 2009 he succumbed to longstanding cancer in the General Hospital of the City of Vienna and was cremated in the Simmering fire hall .
