nextroom is an online database that deals with contemporary architecture . The portal offers extensive access to profiles of architects and buildings in Austria and the surrounding countries such as Slovakia , Slovenia and Hungary .

History and organization

nextroom was founded in 1996 by the Swiss architect Juerg Meister. In the meantime, nextroom, based on an extensive database of buildings, images and text, has grown into an extensive archive of contemporary building. The focus is on Austria, but other areas are also included.

Today nextroom is looked after by the association for the promotion of cultural debate and receives funds from the architecture funding of the Austrian Federal Chancellery .

Content

The contents include

Partners are, for example, the Architekturzentrum Wien (which works on architecture in Austria before 1945 on its website) and aut.architektur und tirol (ex Architekturforum Tirol ), two of the four so far four “Houses of Architecture” in Austria, and several other architecture organizations in Austria and Europe, with which content is exchanged ( e.g. Het Nieuwe Instituut , ex NAI, in Rotterdam). Another focus is the recording of sustainable building , in cooperation with the Austrian Society for Sustainable Building .
