The regional court of St. Pölten (short: LG St. Pölten ) is one of 20 regional courts in Austria .

Location

The Landesgericht St. Polten is in the building Schießstattgasse ring 6, in which the District Court of St. Pölten and St. Poelten prosecutor are housed.

tasks

As a regional court, it is responsible for dealing with appeals against decisions of the district courts in the second instance  . In principle, it is responsible for civil matters in the event of a value in dispute exceeding € 15,000. However, certain cases fall within the jurisdiction of the district courts regardless of the amount in dispute. It is responsible for criminal matters in the first instance if the threat of punishment is more than a year. Certain criminal cases fall under his jurisdiction even if the threat of punishment is lower.

The court of appeal for decisions by the St. Pölten Regional Court is the  Vienna Higher Regional Court .

history

During the Austrian Civil War in 1934 , two members of the Republican Protection Association were arrested in Rohrbach an der Gölsen after the Heimwehr battalion commander Hans Lintner was shot in the village of Ob der Kirche ( town of Hainfeld ). Those arrested were Johann Hois (born July 23, 1891, factory worker from Rohrbach, commander of the local Republican Protection Association), and Viktor Rauchberger (born July 20, 1908, bricklayer from Rohrbach, member of the Republican Protection Association). The court martial in St. Pölten sentenced Hois and Rauchberger to death by hanging, the execution by executioner Johann Lang took place on February 16, 1934 in the St. Pölten regional court. A tombstone for both of them was unveiled on March 29, 1974 at St. Pölten's main cemetery.
