Regional Court of Klagenfurt

The Regional Court of Klagenfurt is a court in Klagenfurt . Its district coincides with the area of the state of Carinthia . As a regional court , it is responsible in the second instance to deal with the appeals against decisions of the eleven Carinthian district courts (see list of court districts in Carinthia ). In principle, it is responsible for civil matters in the case of a dispute value of over € 15,000 in the first instance. However, certain legal cases fall under the jurisdiction of the district courts in the first instance, regardless of the amount in dispute. It is responsible for criminal matters in the first instance if the threat of punishment is more than a year. Certain criminal cases fall under his jurisdiction even if the threat of punishment is lower.

The court of appeal for decisions by the regional court in Klagenfurt is the higher regional court in Graz .

The building of the Klagenfurt Regional Court in the north of Klagenfurt's inner city forms a complex of court, public prosecutor and prison ( Klagenfurt Prison ). The courthouse is a broad, four-storey building with a simple classifying structure and a central projection with a frontispiece from the beginning of the 20th century. Since the building of the regional court is now clearly out of date, a new building or a general or detailed renovation is being discussed, whereby the Ministry of Justice has already announced that it will move the prison from the city center to the periphery of Klagenfurt.
