The Klagenfurt Prison is a judicial prison in the Carinthian capital, Klagenfurt am Wörthersee . The prison is responsible for the execution of pre- trial detention for the Klagenfurt Regional Court as well as for custodial sentences that do not exceed a duration of 18 months. The institution (with its branch) is the only prison facility in Carinthia.

Up to 340 inmates can be accommodated in the main building of the prison in Klagenfurt's Purtscherstraße, while the Rottenstein branch in St. Georgen am Längsee has places for another 50 prisoners. As of August 31, 2007, these total prison places were occupied by 377 prisoners. This corresponds to an occupancy rate of 96.67 percent, which means that the prison was one of the less busy penal institutions in Austria on this date.

The building of today's prison was built in 1859 as a detention center for the associated courthouse. The institute underwent particular structural changes between 1980 and 1990 through a general renovation. Due to the lack of space in the historic institution in downtown Klagenfurt, a new building was planned more and more urgently from the mid-2010s. On February 7, 2020, the prison management finally announced that a Europe-wide tender for the general planning of the new prison had been issued on January 14. The planned new building is to be erected on a plot of land northeast of Klagenfurt Airport in Josef-Sablatnig-Strasse from 2022 and will accommodate up to 400 prisoners.
