Prison Wels

The Wels Prison is a judicial prison that is attached to the Wels Regional Court in Upper Austria . The prison is a prison for remand prisoners used the Regional Court. In addition, female and male prisoners can be accommodated in the building, whose total term of detention does not exceed 18 months. With only 156 planned detention places, the prison is one of the smaller Austrian prisons. As of August 30, 2007, 27 prisoners on remand and 93 prisoners were incarcerated in the Wels prison. This corresponds to a total occupancy rate of 83.97%.

In 1896, Emperor Franz Joseph I approved the construction of the courthouse with an attached prisoner's wing. The prison was opened on November 1st, 1900.
