The Ried Prison is a regional court prison in the Upper Austrian town of Ried im Innkreis . The prison is part of the Ried Regional Court .

As a court Gefangenenhaus the institution is for the reception of detention prisoners responsible and prisoners of both sexes with a maximum penalty period of 18 months. The detention facility is designed for 132 inmates; on August 30, 2007, however, only 117 prisoners were housed in Ried. At that time, this corresponded to an occupancy rate of 88.64%, making the institution one of the least busy penal institutions in Austria.

history

The prison was built together with the regional court in the years 1884 to 1889. This construction measure had become necessary after the conditions in the Fronfeste , which had previously been used as a prison, had become unbearable, whereupon in 1880 a 2 yoke and 46 fathom lot of land in Bahnhofstrasse had been acquired. The regional court and the new prison were built on this. The institution was ready to move into on December 12, 1889. The T-shaped building, which offered space for 250 prisoners, was modernly equipped with steam heating for the time.

In 1985 a workshop wing was built and in 1987 a detention center was set up for the Ried prison. It was not until 1998 that the prison wing underwent a general renovation, during which urgently necessary modernization measures were implemented.
