Ruben Reeves (also Reuben Reeves * 25. October 1905 in Chicago and Evansville ( Indiana ), † 8. September 1975 in New York City ) was an American jazz - trumpet of the Chicago Jazz .
biography
Ruben Reeves made recordings with Johnny Dodds together with his brother Gerald Reeves in 1927 . He was then a member of the Missourians formation , which Cab Calloway later took over. In 1928 recordings were made under his own name with musicians of this orchestra ( Papa Skag Stomp , Blues Sweets , Texas Special Blues ) and again in 1933 with his own formation. Reeves was heavily influenced by Louis Armstrong , but also often used powerful growl effects. The record company Vocalion tried to make him a rival of Armstrong. In 1952 Reeves left the music business and worked as a security guard in a bank.
