Omer Simeon (born July 21, 1902 in New Orleans , Louisiana , † September 17, 1959 in New York City ) was an American clarinetist and saxophonist .

Live and act

Omer Simeon moved with his family from New Orleans to Chicago in 1914 , where he took classes with Lorenzo Tio Jr. who had also moved to Chicago. First he played in his brother's group, the Al Simeons Hot Six ; this was followed by an engagement in Charlie Elgar's Creole Orchestra from 1923 to 1927 . In 1928 he moved to New York City and played with Luis Russell and Jelly Roll Morton , but returned to Chicago that year to work with Erskine Tate in the latter's orchestra ; He also recorded with Earl Hines , Hayes Alvis and Wallace Bishop under his own name for Brunswick Records ( Beau-Koo Jack / Smoke-House Blues ). In 1930 he took part in recordings of Harry Dial for Vocalion ; In 1931 he joined the Earl Hines Orchestra , where he stayed until 1941. It was followed by the Jimmie Luncefords Orchestra from 1942 to 1950. He made Dixieland recordings with Kid Orys Creole Orchestra in 1944 and 1945 and with Wilbur de Paris and his band. Simeon died of cancer in 1959.
