Erskine Tate

Erskine Tate (* 19th December 1895 in Memphis , Tennessee ; † 17th December 1978 in Chicago ) was an American Jazz - Big Band -Leader and violinist of Swing .

Erskine Tate came to Chicago in 1912, where he directed an orchestra at the Vendome Theater from 1918 until the late 1920s . The repertoire consisted only partially of jazz titles ; But Tate employed numerous jazz musicians in his orchestra such as Everett Barksdale , Freddie Keppard , Buster Bailey , Jimmy Bertrand , Earl Hines , Stump Evans , Louis Armstrong ( Stomp Off Let's Go, Static Strut 1926), Bob Shoffner , Punch Miller , Omer Simeon , Preston Jackson , Fats Waller , Teddy Wilson, and others. Tate led an orchestra until the mid-1930s, when he worked as a music teacher.
