Bob Shoffner
Robert "Bob" Shoffner (* 4. April 1900 in St. Louis , † 5. March 1983 ) was an American jazz - trumpet .
Shoffner grew up in St. Louis, played drums before switching to the trumpet and was in a military band during World War I. He then played with Charlie Creath and came to Chicago in 1921 , where he played for King Oliver from 1924 to February 1927 . He had to give up because of problems with his lips. He played with Charlie Elgar in 1928 , with Earl Hines (1929), Erskine Tate (1931), with McKinney's Cotton Pickers (1931) and Frankie Jaxon (1932). In 1934 he moved to New York City , where he played with Fess Williams , Fletcher Henderson and the band of Hot Lips Page (1938). He then returned to Chicago, where he worked for the State of Illinois, but still played occasionally. In the mid-1940s he gave up the music profession entirely. From 1957 to 1963 he played with the Original Jazz All-Stars by Franz Jackson , with whom he also recorded.
He recorded in the 1920s with the Blues Serenaders of Lovie Austin , with Jimmy O'Bryant , Ida Cox , Luis Russell (1926), King Oliver and later with Frankie Jaxon, Richard M. Jones and Jesse Stone .
