history

Judicial districts in Carinthia since 1979

The judicial districts that exist today go back to the year 1850, which were newly created in the course of the abolition of sovereign and patrimonial jurisdiction . A total of 27 judicial districts were created, which existed in almost unchanged form until 1918.

In 1918/19 Carinthia had to cede the judicial district of Tarvisio to Italy , and on June 1, 1923, the judicial districts of Arnoldstein and Paternion were dissolved.

After the Greifenburg judicial district was dissolved in 1972, 13 of the remaining 24 district courts had to cease serving between 1977 and 1979. Since then, the court structure in Carinthia has remained unchanged.
