The 13 judicial districts in Tyrol

This list of judicial districts in Tyrol lists all existing judicial districts as well as the former judicial districts in the federal state of Tyrol or in the then Fürsteten Grafschaft Tirol .

history

The judicial districts that exist today go back to 1849. After the abolition of the previous jurisdiction, the transfer of legal affairs to the newly appointed princely courts was passed on by a declaration by the State Court Introductory Commission . Based on the Innsbruck Higher Regional Court (to which the Court of Justice and Cassation Court in Vienna was subordinate in the last instance), the three regional courts Innsbruck (for the Innsbruck district ), Bozen ( Brixen district ) and Feldkirch ( Vorarlberg district ) as well as the two Senates Trient and Roveredo created for the Trento district.

The district courts were subordinate to the regional courts or the senates, with 66 district courts in Tyrol and 6 district courts in Vorarlberg. These 72 judicial districts also formed the lowest level of jurisdiction.

Although Vorarlberg became a “state” in 1861 with its own state parliament and state committee, the court organization remained in place and the Feldkirch regional court was subordinate to the Innsbruck Higher Regional Court.

Only after the end of the First World War did the Treaty of Saint-Germain bring about serious changes in the organization of the courts. Tyrol had to cede the areas of the Senate Trento and Roveredo (Trentino) as well as parts of the area of the Regional Court of Bozen (South Tyrol) with the exception of the judicial districts of Lienz, Matrei and parts of the judicial districts of Nauders and Sillian to Italy. As a result, the Nauders District Court was closed in 1921 and the Sillian District Court in 1925.

The judicial districts of Mieders and Fügen were dissolved in 1923. It was not until 1977 that another court came to an end with the Steinach District Court, and the Ried District Court followed a year later. With the District Court Ordinance of the Austrian Federal Government passed in 2002, the District Courts of Hopfgarten in Brixental and Matrei in East Tyrol were finally closed.
