Judicial districts in Styria (January 2015)
Affiliation of the judicial districts to the two regional courts (January 2015)

This list of judicial districts in Styria lists all of the existing and former judicial districts in the Austrian state of Styria . Of the 65 judicial districts created in 1849 (then including Lower Styria), 15 have been in existence since July 2014.

history

The judicial districts of Styria were created through an announcement of the provincial court introduction commission passed in 1849. Originally Styria comprised 65 judicial districts, which were initially subordinate to the three regional and district courts of Cilli , Graz and Leoben . Cilli had 20, Graz 24 and Leoben 21 judicial districts. In the course of the separation of the political from the judicial administration, the judicial districts lost their administrative role. This was then taken care of by the political districts, which in 1868 were usually formed from several judicial districts. This administrative structure remained almost unchanged until the end of the monarchy, even though, for example, due to the creation of the districts of Gröbming and Gonobitz, the allocation of the judicial districts to the political districts was subject to slight changes.

temporary changes in the court blocks from 1943 to 1945

In contrast to the district division, the creation of the Marburg District Court in 1898 brought about a major change in the division of the courts. As a result of the formation, ten judicial districts were removed from the area of the Cilli District Court and subsequently placed under the Marburg District Court. After the end of the First World War , the Treaty of Saint-Germain brought about further serious changes in the organization of the courts. The Styria had the Lower Styria, d. H. cede the areas of the district courts of Cilli and Marburg, with the exception of small shares of the judicial districts of Mahrenberg and Marburg, to the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Parts of the judicial districts of Leibnitz, Arnfels, Mureck and Radkersburg also fell to Yugoslavia.

In 1923, three judicial districts were dissolved for the first time. From June 15, 1943, the district courts of Fehring , Rottenmann and Wildon were shut down, the business operations of some other smaller district courts were limited to the one office of a neighboring district court, at other court locations only official days took place, so that from then until 1945 there were dealings with the official district such courts concerned that can bear the official seal of a neighboring court (e.g. at the jurisdiction locations Eibiswald , Wildon , Arnfels , Gröbming , Pöllau ). In 1945 these courts were given the name District Court and their full range of powers.

Eight district courts lost their independence in 1976, eleven district courts were closed in 2002, and in 2004 the judicial district of Bad Aussee was dissolved. In 2007, the area of the Graz District Court was divided: from the municipalities of the Graz Surrounding District, which belong to the Graz judicial district, and the Graz Districts I.-III. and VI.-XII. became the judicial district Graz-Ost and the Graz city districts IV.-V. and XIII.-XVII. the Graz-West judicial district was formed.

On July 1, 2013, the districts of Frohnleiten , Hartberg , Irdning and Knittelfeld were dissolved, and on July 1, 2014, the districts of Bad Radkersburg , Gleisdorf and Stainz followed .

Due to the changes in the framework of the municipal structural reform in Styria , the jurisdiction of the district courts in Styria was newly announced with effect from January 1, 2015. This was necessary because some newly emerging communities are made up of earlier communities that were in different districts and a number of new communities also have newly introduced names (e.g. the community of Schwarzautal ). The changes are summarized in the District Courts Ordinance Styria 2015.
