List of judicial districts in Bohemia

Political Districts of the Kingdom of Bohemia 1893.

This list of judicial districts in Bohemia lists all former judicial districts in the Austrian Crown Land of Bohemia .

history

The patrimonial jurisdiction that existed in this form in the middle of the 19th century and has been in force since 1784 was abolished in the Austrian Empire after the revolutionary years of 1848/49 . Up to this point in time there had been 1,090 different courts of first instance in Bohemia. In addition to the 868 Dominical courts, there were 142 courts in the municipal cities, 56 courts in royal cities, 19 criminal courts, four mountain courts and one court of the k. k. Bohemian Land Law. It was replaced by the district, regional and higher regional courts, which were planned according to the principles of the Minister of Justice and whose creation was approved by Emperor Franz Joseph I on July 6, 1849 . According to the Minister of Justice, the court division by the Ministry of Justice was based on four main criteria. First of all, the previously existing dominions should not be dismantled and the tax communities should be kept within their limits. In addition, when assigning the courts, consideration was given to territorial conditions such as population density, transport connections, economic structure and the previous court system. The language barriers played a further role in the division of courts. The ministry only envisaged cities that had already been the seat of magistrates as the seat of the district courts.

With the new court order in 1849, 210 judicial districts were created. These were subordinate to the 13 regional courts in Bohemian Leipa (Česká Lípa), Brüx (Most), Budweis (České Budějovice), Eger (Cheb), Hohenmauth (Vysoké Mýto), Jitschin (Jičín), Königgrätz (Hradec Králové), Kuttenberg ( Kutná Hora), Pilsen (Plzeň), Pisek (Písek), Prague (Praha), Reichenberg (Liberec) and Tabor (Tábor). The higher regional court in Prague stood above the regional courts . Before the end of the Habsburg monarchy, Bohemia comprised 232 judicial districts.
