List of judicial districts in Salzburg
This list of court districts in Salzburg lists all existing court districts as well as the former court districts in the state of Salzburg .
history
The judicial districts that exist today go back to 1850. First of all, with a decree of the Imperial and Royal Higher Regional Court of Linz on May 10, 1850, the previous princely and patrimonial courts had to subordinate the judicial business to the newly appointed princely courts.
On July 4, 1850, a further decree of the Higher Regional Court established 70 judicial districts for the federal states of Upper Austria and Salzburg. In addition to the 22 judicial districts in today's state of Salzburg, the judicial district of Mondsee and the four judicial districts of today's Braunau district were also subordinated to the Salzburg Regional Court.
The division of the districts in Salzburg was changed as early as 1854, with the judicial districts of Goldegg and Grossarl being dissolved. The district courts of Salzburg Section I (for the City of Salzburg) and Salzburg II Section (for the Salzburg area), founded in 1850, were also merged for the city of Salzburg and the surrounding communities in the 19th century.
The judicial districts of Thalgau, Lofer and St. Michael were dissolved as part of the separation of the political from the judicial administration on February 28, 1867.
This measure was partially reversed as early as autumn 1869, the "re-established judicial districts of Lofer, St. Michael and Thalgau ... began to take effect on January 1, 1870".
The district courts of Golling, Lofer and Mattsee were closed for the first time in 1923, when the district courts were permanently dissolved.
In 1962 the judicial district of Sankt Michael was dissolved.
The biggest wave of district court closings to date came with the 2002 “District Court Ordinance Salzburg”, which dissolved the district courts of Abtenau, Gastein, Sankt Gilgen, Taxenbach and Werfen in 2003 and the district courts Mittersill and Radstadt in 2005.
On July 1, 2017, the Saalfelden judicial district was closed and all affected communities were assigned to the Zell am See judicial district. This includes the entire Zell am See district.
future
On July 1, 2022, the previous district court districts of Neumarkt, Oberndorf and Thalgau will be dissolved and merged into a central district court at the new Seekirchen am Wallersee location .
