Barsberge forester cemetery

The Försterfriedhof Barsberge is a historical cemetery southwest of the town of Seehausen in the Altmark in Saxony-Anhalt .

location

The cemetery is located in the forest south of the Barsberge forester's lodge, immediately west of the path to Drüsedau .

history

The layout of the cemetery goes back to the royal district forester Hahn , who worked in the neighboring Barsberge forester's house. At his request, on May 14, 1873, the construction of a burial place for the residents of Barsberg on Drüsedauer Weg was approved.

Hahn planted an oak tree on the cemetery area as a symbol of his professional life and determined by legacy that his burial should take place there. The first burial actually took place for the body of the forester Hahn, who then died on June 5, 1909 . On his tombstone was the inscription: I would like to rest in this forest, which I have faithfully cherished and cared for for over 30 years. Ask the forests how they want to be educated, they will teach you better than books do. His wife was later buried.

Hahn's successor in office, Forester Nowraty and his wife also received their grave in the cemetery. In the next decades, further burials of residents of Barsberg followed.

In the late 1970s, the cemetery was damaged and grave slabs destroyed.
