The Coast of Whispers (orig .: A Costa dos Murmúrios ) is a novel by the Portuguese writer Lídia Jorge .

In a retrospect against the backdrop of the colonial war, the work tells the romance of Eva Lopo, who comes to Mozambique as the bride of a young officer .

The novel was published in 1988 by Publicações Dom Quixote in Portuguese. In 1993, Suhrkamp published a German-language edition in translation by Karin von Schweder-Schreiner , followed by the paperback edition two years later.

The book served as a literary template for the film of the same name A Costa dos Murmúrios , which was made in 2004 under the direction of Margarida Cardoso .
