climate
The average air temperature in Seehausen is 8.5 ° C, the annual precipitation 541 millimeters.
The German Weather Service operates a weather station in Seehausen which, in addition to monitoring the weather and the climate, is also active in radioactivity monitoring . The WMO code of the Seehausen weather station is 10261. It was set up on October 1, 1976. The station has been unmanned since December 3, 2018.
history
Findings suggest that the area around Seehausen has been inhabited since the Neolithic . The city was named a town in 1151 under Albrecht the Bear , who, in addition to the already resident Slavic population, settled Dutch settlers to further dike the area. The name of the city is not derived from a lake near the city. It is more likely that the name goes back to the Count of Sidag, to whom the area was given as a fief . In 1009, Bishop Wigbert mentions a settlement called Sidageshusen in what is now Seehausen. Seehausen was a member of the Hanseatic League from 1358 to 1488 .
As a medieval town, Seehausen had town fortifications . Remnants of the city wall and one of five city gates, the Beustertor, are still preserved today. There were also several churches in the city area, some of which belonged to hospitals . During the Thirty Years War , the Altmark and thus Seehausen were also affected by the clashes. For example, building materials were requisitioned for the construction of the Schwedenschanze at Werben and a suburb was demolished.
The city was hit by witch hunts from 1569 to 1721 . There were 14 executions in 25 witch trials , one woman died as a result of torture and one woman committed suicide while in custody.
In 1849 Seehausen (Altmark) was connected to the railway network of the Magdeburg – Wittenberge railway line and also received its own train station (now a stop ), at that time a little outside the city. In 1865 the newly built high school was opened.
Seehausen is located on the western edge of the Wische , a former floodplain of the Elbe. The city was affected by dike breaches and floods several times in its history, including in 1909 when the dike near Kannenberg broke.
In connection with the November pogrom in 1938, the nearby Jewish cemetery at Am Schillerhain was destroyed by the National Socialists .
Seehausen was under American occupation from April 12, 1945, under English occupation from June 1 to 30, 1945, and under Soviet occupation from July 1, 1945.
Seehausen belonged to the Osterburg district until 1952 , but became a district town in the newly founded Magdeburg district as part of the administrative reform in the GDR . The Seehausen district was dissolved in 1965 and rejoined the Osterburg district.
Incorporations
On February 1, 1974, Behrend was incorporated.
The municipal councils of the municipalities of Beuster (on June 8, 2009), Geestgottberg (on June 9, 2009), Losenrade (on June 22, 2009) and the Hanseatic City of Seehausen (Altmark) (on June 29, 2009) decided that their communities are dissolved and merged into a new community with the name Hanseatic City of Seehausen (Altmark) . This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010. On September 1, 2010, Schönberg was also incorporated.

coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved on April 28, 1995 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.
Blazon : "In silver, a gold-armored red eagle with a knocked-out tongue, each catch accompanied by a green sea leaf."
The coat of arms with the Brandenburg eagle was created around the 13th century. On a document from 1353 he wears gold breast clasps with clover leaf ends. The meaning of the lake leaves is not clear, as there was no lake near the city (one was not built in the north of the city until 1975/77, through dredging for the construction of the Elbe bridge near Wittenberge). Perhaps the location of the city on the glacial valley of the Elbe and the frequent flooding by floods in the past centuries were the reason for the inclusion of the Seeblätter.
flag
The flag was approved on February 8, 2000 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.
The flag is red - white - red (1: 4: 1) striped (hoisting flag: stripes from top to bottom; cross flag: stripes from right to left) with the coat of arms of the city on top.
