The municipality of Schollene lies between the Havel and the Land Schollene , a wooded terminal moraine arch . The Havel changes its direction of flow near Schollene from the east to the north. Not far from this bend in the Havel is the 70 hectare Nierower or Schollener See . The southern part of the wooded municipal area is used as a military training area. The next town is Rathenow in the neighboring Brandenburg district of Havelland .

Schollene is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Kamern and Havelberg in the north, Havelaue in the northeast, Rathenow in the east, Milower Land in the south, Schönhausen (Elbe) in the southwest and Klietz in the west.

history

The originally Wendish settled place appears for the first time in 948 in a document. The name is derived from Skolena = knee ( Havel knee).

In addition to agriculture, the promotion of Pelose from the bottom of the Nierower or Schollener See , which is unique in Germany, plays a role. Pelose healing mud is used in hospitals and health clinics for rheumatic diseases, sports injuries and in cosmetics.

The manor Schollene Castle was built in 1752 and changed hands several times. a. those of Werder , of Waiting life and of the Hagen . It belonged to the von Alvensleben family until the land reform in 1945 . On September 30, 1928, the manor district of Schollene was merged with the rural community of Schollene. The Schollene war memorial to commemorate those who fell in the First World War was erected in 1924.

The district Ferchels was first mentioned in 1369. The name (formerly also “Verkels” and “Verchels”) comes from the Slavic “vruhu”, which means “mountain peak”, so “place on the mountain”. Both the old village center - a Wendish circular  - and the newer part to the west are built on elevations that are safe from flooding.

On September 30, 1928 the manor districts Mahlitz and Nierow were combined with the rural community Neuwartensleben.

On July 1, 1950, the previously independent communities Ferchels, Molkenberg and Neuwartensleben were incorporated.

coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on November 13, 1995 by the Magdeburg Regional Council.

Blazon : “Split by silver and blue; in front a red, gold-armored eagle at the gap with a golden clover stalk on the wing, in the back three silver seagulls in the shape of an 'M', staggered at an angle. "

The basic colors of the community of Schollene have always been blue and white, hence the choice of these tinctures in the split shield. The half red eagle documents the historical affiliation to the Electorate of Brandenburg. Since the Christianization in the 10th century, Schollene has always been a border area and, due to its strong castle, a bone of contention between the diocese of Magdeburg and the Brandenburg region. The seagulls symbolize the lake and the nearby Havel, i.e. the wealth of water in the Schollene region.

Historical coat of arms

The former communities Ferchels, Molkenberg, Neuwartensleben and Schollene already had a coat of arms-like seal image in their community seal. This was used in the period after the Second World War until around the introduction of the districts and counties in the GDR (1945–1952). Another source is the County Home Museum in Genthin.
