The Elbe-Havel-Land association was established on January 1, 2010 in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt . Since association communities are allowed to have a maximum of eight member communities with 1000 inhabitants each, the following changes were made on the same day:
- Incorporation of the municipalities of Schönfeld (213 inhabitants) and Wulkau (445 inhabitants) into the municipality of Kamern, whose population increases from 678 to 1,336
- Incorporation of the community of Neuermark-Lübars (351 inhabitants) into the community of Klietz, whose population increases from 1,476 to 1,827
- Incorporation of the community of Hohengöhren (425 inhabitants) into the community of Schönhausen, whose population increases from 1,940 to 2,365
- Merger of the municipalities Fischbeck (659 inhabitants) and Wust (866 inhabitants) to form the new municipality Wust-Fischbeck (1,525 inhabitants)

The community is located east of the Elbe partly in the Middle Elbe Biosphere Reserve and in the Land of Schollene .

coat of arms
The coat of arms was approved by the district on January 18, 2010.
Blazon : "In blue in front of two lowered silver corrugated bars, a silver stork with black wing cover and red beak and legs."
The new community has decided to take over the coat of arms of the dissolved administrative community Elbe-Havel-Land and continue to do so.
The colors of the Verbandsgemeinde are silver (white) - blue.
The coat of arms was designed by the Magdeburg municipal heraldist Jörg Mantzsch .

The flag is blue - white - blue (1: 4: 1) striped (longitudinal shape: stripes running vertically, transverse shape: stripes running horizontally) and centered with the municipal coat of arms.

The federal road 107 runs through the association . In Schönhausen there is a train station on the Berlin – Lehrte railway line .
Religions
The 2011 census in the European Union showed that of the 8,899 inhabitants of the Elbe-Havel-Land association, around 23% belonged to the Protestant and around 3% to the Catholic Church.
