Klietz is a municipality in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt (Germany). It belongs to the Elbe-Havel-Land association, which has its administrative seat in the municipality of Schönhausen (Elbe) .
geography
The municipality of Klietz lies on the north-western edge of the state of Schollene , a wooded terminal moraine arc that extends over a length of 30 kilometers between the rivers Elbe and Havel, which run parallel here . Between Klietz and the Elbe, which forms the western boundary of the municipality, lie the extensive Elbe meadows with numerous ditches; on the opposite side of the Elbe is the small town of Arneburg . Parts of the Klietzer Heide and Ferchelschen Heide east and south-east of Klietz have been used as military training areas for decades .
Klietz is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Kamern in the north, Schollene in the east, Schönhausen (Elbe) in the south, Tangermünde in the southwest and Arneburg in the west.
Community structure
The districts of Neuermark-Lübars and Scharlibbe belong to Klietz with the settlements Altdorf, Friedenssiedlung and Seesiedlung .
history
Klietz first appears in a document in 1144. The place name comes from Slavonic , from this time remains of a castle wall have been preserved.
The municipality of Klietz is the school location; there are numerous shops, a day care center, a medical center and several craft and service companies.
Nearby is the 9150 hectare large military training area Klietz . From 1934 to 1945, WASAG produced explosives for the military on the site with the use of hundreds of forced laborers . The company's facilities were dismantled by the Soviet Union after the end of the war. From 1948 accommodation was built for the barracked people's police of the GDR . In 1956 the military training area came to the National People's Army , which established a training center for artillery units. Most recently the Military Scientific Institute of the Military Reconnaissance of the National People's Army , Missile Department 19 and some training facilities of the AZ-19 of the East German NVA were stationed here. From 1990 the location was taken over by the German Armed Forces .
On July 1, 1950, the previously independent community of Scharlibbe was incorporated.
The municipality of Klietz originally belonged to the district of Jerichow II , which from July 1, 1950 was called the district of Genthin . On July 25, 1952, the community came to the Havelberg district as part of the first administrative reform of the GDR . On July 1, 1994, the community was assigned to the district of Stendal .
On July 1, 1950, the communities of Neuermark and Lübars from the district of Jerichow II were also incorporated into the community of Klietz. As early as January 1, 1957, both districts were spun off from the Klietz and merged to form the new community of Neuermark-Lübars . In the course of the regional reform in Saxony-Anhalt, Neuermark-Lübars was incorporated into Klietz on January 1, 2010 .

coat of arms
Blazon : "In gold, a leaping red stag with ten-pointed antlers and black hooves over a green three-mountain."
Klietz already had a community seal in 1781. It was a picture seal (not a coat of arms seal!) That showed a jumping deer in the seal picture.
In 1946 the community objected to a seal supplied by the district that contained 2 halberds. The mayor at the time asked to be allowed to continue the old community seal with the deer and wrote: “ When the community seal of the Jerichow II district was checked for the first time in 1908, it was found that the following 14 communities had the deer in their coat of arms * : Briest, Garz, Groß Wulkow, Kabelitz, Kamern, Klein Wulkow, Klietz, Kulhausen, Molkenberg, Redekin, Reesen, Rehberg, Scharteucke, Warnau. In the aforementioned places, the coat of arms * used was no longer the characteristic feature of a particular municipality and had lost its meaning as a distinctive symbol that was specific to the municipality. A few years ago in the Landratsl. A review of the archival holdings of the Magdeburg State Archives showed that in 1691, of the places in the Jerichow II district, only the community of Garz kept the stag and coat of arms * . The other places mentioned, which used to have their own coat of arms , adorned their coat of arms * with 'foreign feathers' in the 19th century without authorization. "
In the chronicle of the municipality of Klietz (school chronicle) there is also a reference to the consecration of the school flag on June 1, 1957 with the image of the deer leaping over a clearing in the forest overgrown with heather.
The Klietz municipal council had already decided on November 28, 1991 to include the symbolism of the jumping deer in the local coat of arms. This request was granted in 1996 by heraldically correcting tinctures, deer and shield foot. The coat of arms was designed by the local heraldist Jörg Mantzsch and the stag was drawn as it was handed down in seals and pictures.
Historical coat of arms
The former communities of Klietz and Scharlibbe already had a coat of arms-like seal image in their community seal. This was used in the period after the Second World War until approximately the introduction of the districts and counties in the GDR (1945–1952). Another source is the County Home Museum in Genthin.
